Duck, Eric specified the SA Explorer 2100. He might have done so in the title, but at least he did. Anyway, I have Explorer 1850’s and this works on them as well. To clarify, when viewing the (on my box 20) diagnostic pages, pressing the “diamond” button cycles through the screen background as opaque and two levels of translucency which allow the tuned channel to show through the diag page. Pretty interesting.

This is for Explorer 8000 and other DVR boxes. To format the hard drive, press and hold the pause button on the remote for about 30 seconds until you see a flashing message light. Then hit Page Down and the List button 3 times. It will take about 10 seconds to format, and then reset. All AV data on the drive will be erased.

I need help, I want to reset my explorer 2100 cable box. I have done all the things to reset my cable box, but nothing happened. I press the diamond button for some time and the light above the envelope does not turns on, in order for the list of diagnostics to appear, I have to press simultaneously the diamond and exit buttons. I move to different pages but I cant exit when I press the exit button, when I access the list of diagnostics, I cant exit, thats why I have to turn off my cablebox. I can make the diag appear on the screen by pressing the diamond an exit buttons simultaneously, but I dont know what where to go from there. Please help

If you have a newer Scientific Atlanta cable box or a DVR from S.A., you need to press and hold the button in the middle of the channel and volume buttons (on the box itself) until the message light flashes. and then press info (on the remote or the box). Press page up or page down on the box or on your controller to look at all the pages. Then press exit to exit (yes, on the controller or the remote). P.S. – You cannot press and hold the ‘Select’ button on the remote to make the message light come on 🙂

On an Explorer 2200: turn off the box, press and hold info + select (button in middle of vol/chan), press (but not hold) power. After a few seconds (still holding the two buttons) “DIAG” appears on the display, at which point release the buttons and quickly hit only the info button again.
